whats the best way to test to make sure the program works properly
before burning it into a PIC12c50x , since their o.t.p.
do i get a uv eraseable PIC12c50x (>$31.00 each -1offs-farnell) to do
all initial tests on , then erase after each test burn , till i get bugs
out or
otherwise it could be very expensive testing if you have to use a new
pic12c50x everytime,before you get it right .
is their a simultor for this
thanks for your time & help

Just debugging the general code? use MPLAB. If you are talking about
modifying the code to the application when sometimes it works good on the
simulator but poses other problems in service, get an EPROM version.

Thats what I am doing...Using a EPROM peice until I get everything like I
want then I will go to OTPs.

MPLAB 4.0 from Microchip lists the chips you are talking about, and its a
simulator. Just go to the microchip website and download it for free.

i was going along pretty good with a window '509. mine only
cost me $12 bucks, though. (Parallax).
when i learned (!) that the JW part does not like 9 volts supplied
where 5 was called for (never mind exactly how *that* happened)
i was dead in the water.
i got some mileage using a simulator. i usually rough out the code
that way anyway.
what i did to get back on the air until replacement JW parts come
in (are they out of stock everywhere they don't sell for $31?)
was to lash up a 16F84 onto an 8-pin socket so that it would look and
act a lot like a '509.
worked pretty good and i only got burned (so to speak) once by using
a little more stack depth than actually exists on the '509.

I've tried simulation, and I've tried using 16F84 as much as possible,
but it reduces stress a lot to have a JW part to fiddle with.
Check the http://www.iversoft.com/piclist/ archives for a porting
checklist I wrote last year. Helps one to write code that works on
16F84 and 12C509 at the same time. I tried searching for it then, but
the search engine couldn't find me, and it could not find 12C509
either! I suspect a fault with the engine.

That's IMHO the best way to go. See below.
> is their a simulator for this
Yes, the MPLAB package has simulators for all the Micro-controllers it can
program. But ! Simulators simulate. They _can't_ give you the exact
behavour of the device itself (and MicroChip does not simulate _all_
features of the chips ...).
