'Timing and Delays'

I'm trying to make a controller that will turn on a receiver and look
for a high input. I'd like to use the micro to turn the receiver on for
.5 secs every 4 secs this should cut down on the battery size and I can
make the transmit pulse as long as i like. Can the micro timer work for
this length of time or should I build some external timer for a
reference.  Yes I'm a newbee and it is all confusing to me. Thanks for
the help and what I've learned off the list.

I would use the WDT for this and set up the prescaler so that you get the
required delay. With the prescaler set on a maximum you can get about 4.5
seconds.

good luck
