I sat down to try to say something just possibly profound about Easter, Serbs and Kosovars, hurts remembered over hundreds and hundreds of years, killing, peace on earth, the man of sorrows, loving our neighbour as we love ourselves, where this all fits into our generally comfortable and technologically pampered world and much more. Nothing I could think of exceeded the simple profoundness of the ancient Easter salutation - The Lord is Risen! and its response He is risen indeed! Pray for the world, and remember the so many millions of people in worse circumstances than us. May God bless you all this Easter. in love Russell McMahon

Hey, I could start off an Athiesm thread here, but I somehow suspect that a large group of programmers/inventors is (in general) happy to take direct credit for their own hard work, whether it be "creation" of microcontrolers, re-engineering of the mammalian nervous system or simple charge by line programming. I agree that this isn't that place for an extended discussion about religion,but what is so bad about one little message? Judging from the number of supportive responses,it seems that quite a few piclisters liked Russell's message of Easter greeting. Nobody is forcing religion on you by simply expressing their opinion. Thank the lord for the ability to filter out messages from [OT] discussions. I have found it helpful to use the filter and bypass messages from the religious nut's on this site. People, I have tried to be very calm & reasonable here. I posted last night/early this AM, clearly and calmly, stating my take on this: (One post on this sort of topic = OK occasional post, don't abuse it; "me too" or disagreeing replies, or fights, posted to the whole list resulting from same = NOT ACCEPTABLE i.e. noise.) Perhaps the original post "should have" been posted as OT, but 1579 more posts griping about same to the whole list, 795 posts agreeing with it, 945 posts disagreeing with it, 127 posts professing that a different religion is better, ETC. ETC., just plain DO NOT BELONG on the PICList. We can survive an occasional post we disagree with, all the rest that has come after that just doesn't belong. I not only have a "Delete" key, but also a "Delete User" ability. As Jory has those & a "Smite Mark" key, I've been pretty gentle and just said what I feel - and discussed it even when we have differences of opinion, as a few will agree. I haven't deleted anyone - YET - who didn't ask me to delete them (as in old unreachable accounts), and I'd -prefer- to keep it that way, at the same time I know that this is getting QUITE ridiculous - there's NO need for this garbage on this list. End this thread. Enough is enough, we ARE all adults here, we CAN and WILL, "agree to disagree". I don't want to feel pushed into being a tyrant, I'd just as soon talk, ADULT TO ADULT, to all of you on the list, and feel we can all get along with respect, despite the occasional - or frequent - misunderstanding. OK, I've hesitated weighing in on this fray. I don't like continually listening to OT's of complete irrelevance but I have to comment on this. I sympathize with the people who are affected by what is happening in Yugoslavia. I respect peoples rights to practice a/any religion, but...... This is not the place for either of those discussions!
