'Tab welder'

Does anyone have a way/method of doing tab welding without the proper
equipment?
Emergency fix type as I won't have access to the welder for a few days.

I used a friends tab welder to make a battery pack for a prototype dental
tool and
went to finish things up today (holiday here) and the pos tab dropped off.
And of
course I need this tomorrow.

Any hints or advice for a fairly permanent emergency weld?

You can solder it with a high wattage soldering iron. Usually works ok..
just do it as quick as you can as to not heat up the cell too much.

I know people do this.

The cell makers will tell you that this is extremely dangerous.
There is no way to solder it without raising the temperature of the positive
end beyond the melting point of the plastics that the vent is made from.
Once the vent is damaged, it will either stick closed (pressurized metal can
full of hydrogen and oxygen) or stick open (rapid loss of electrolyte) .  It
might not be damaged enough to leak or stick, but it's risky.

Yeah, it's risky, but he doesn't have any other way of doing it without
a welder, so..
