Best suggestion is SSR. All else would be to use a bridge to rectify the AC wave
form then a MOSFET to allow the signal to pass through.

       I agree that an SSR would be simplest.  You can also "make your
own" SSR using an opto triac and a triac.  See some dimmer schematics I
have at http://hallikainen.com/dove .
