Buy only the software that in the long run will save you money. If it less
expensive to buy an assembler or a library or a C compiler than to create
it buy it and save yourself the difference. Do an honest evaluation of the
costs and benefits and base your purchase on that evaluation.

Price seems to be a very small part of the piracy issue. Many more copies
of low cost software are copied and used than high priced software. Piracy
is an issue largely controlled in North America by an understanding that
software will not have doggles and protection and reputable companies will
make worth an employees job it they use pirated software.

Walter is absolutly right. If your time is worth a damn then get the best
tools possible. It makes perfect sense.

Unless of course, you're someone like me.

Check out gpsim:

http://www.interstice.com/~sdattalo/gnupic/gpsim.html

Where I've begun a simulator that has similar goals to those already
achieved by UMPS. If you've got the time, join GNUPIC mailing list and
start helping develop gpsim. If you've got the money, well ...

Scott

BTW. From what I can tell, UMPS looks like a great piece of software -
worth every penny Phillipe charges. I'm serious. I didn't know about it
before I started gpsim. That's probably a good thing too, otherwise I
may've never started!

Except of course for the dongle.
