I would say "not quite true". Many things are now made that cheaply that
servicing them is not economic. You go and buy a new one when the old one
breaks down. Prime example of this would have to be PCs. To fix these you
are a board jockey, not an engineer of any sort.

That's why they break all the time! Nobody's business to find out why they
broke at the first place. Talk about throwaway society! And btw engineers
are of all sorts, depending on where they got employeed ;)
