Tnx to all for much good advice on purchasing a programmer.  But maybe
someone can comment on the programming differences between various PIC
families, e.g. , why do some programmers list the PIC12c5xx and not the
PIC12c6xx in their device lists?? and etc.

Pgming protocol differs between chip families. What you really need to
do is order/download the data books and app manuals. You'll find that
there is a fair amount of detail to be taken account of using particular
devices - Also help you make an intelligent decision about what pgmr
you need.
