Are you sure that you insert the Pic in the right way...
I'm using Propic too with 12C508 in OTP and UV version without any problem.
Check that you appy the right voltage to the right pin.
Richard.

I am using  Scott Riders pre-assembled hex file called m508v544.hex, this file and the asm code (md508v54.asm) can be obtained from:   http://aeug.org/~chi p/src/modv54.zip, (by the way this is the mod chip code for the sony playstation)

The 2 problems i have encountered are:

1. When writing the code to the 12c508, ProPic s/w reports t he following msg "Pic not erased, continue", i click yes to continue.< /font>

2. It then reports the following error "Writing error i n mem 0" then stops.

My understanding is that the 12c508 is a OTP device, so not sure as to why i'm getting the 'Pic not erased' error and as to the 'mem 0' erro r, i just don't know enough.

Do these errors point to any particular problem???
I have tried 3 different 12c508's with the same results incase it w as a dud pic.
I have successfully programmed 16x84's without any problems using t he same s/w and h/w.

My experience is only MEL PicBasic and 16x84's as a hobby.

Note: Sorry if you have already received this msg -  it bounced back to me,
not sure whether it made it passed my ISP...

I am attempting to program a 12c508, using O Nogueira's ProPic 4.2 S/W and
Dontronic's DT001 (rev a) H/W with a 18 pin to 8 pin adaptor in the ZIF
socket.

I am using  Scott Riders pre-assembled hex file called m508v544.hex, this
file and the asm code (md508v54.asm) can be obtained from:
http://aeug.org/~chip/src/modv54.zip, (by the way this is the mod chip
code for the sony playstation)

The 2 problems i have encountered are:

1. When writing the code to the 12c508, ProPic s/w reports the following
msg "Pic not erased, continue", i click yes to continue.

2. It then reports the following error "Writing error in mem 0" then
stops.

My understanding is that the 12c508 is a OTP device, so not sure as to why
i'm getting the 'Pic not erased' error and as to the 'mem 0' error, i just
don't know enough.

Do these errors point to any particular problem???
I have tried 3 different 12c508's with the same results incase it was a
dud pic. I have successfully programmed 16x84's without any problems using
the same s/w and h/w.

My experience is only MEL PicBasic and 16x84's as a hobby.

I have found the solution to my problem.

My adpator board was wired incorrect, i had connected clk to gp2 instead of
gp1 and data to gp1 instead of gp0. In few minutes with the iron all was
fix, now successfully programs the 12c508.

Thanks to the ppl who offered solutions, as i sit here very red faced. A
re-read of In-circuit programming chapter (DS40139C-page38), made every
thing click.
