Post by thread:PIC16F84 COM84 programming?

Hi! Is it possible to program PIC16F84 chips with COM84-programmer and PIP software(http://sistudio.com/sistudio/download.html)? PIP 1.14 claims that it can program 16F84. The problem is that easiest PICs to get was 16F84 and I made COM84 to program them. Programming don't write anything to the chips, but reading seems to be OK. (code: 3fff 3fff.... eeprom: ff ff ff ff, I guess that these are right for new PIC) Is the COM84 unable to program them or is my COM84 just buggy? /Taiska

I am doing the same thing and it works very well. Be carefull though. V1.14 has some bugs. One is that the configuration bits are not picked up from your hex file correctly and the other is you cannot compile in MPLAB (Under windows) if you have PIP02 V1.14 open in another window. PIP02 doesn't close the hex file so MPLAB cannot access it. This wasn't the case with the older version. Your problem must be your programmer. Hi Antti I see you have just replied too. When I program F84's I select 16F84 as the device & it works fine! Sorry if this is a repost but I got an 'Undeliverable' message with the first one. I am using the same combination of hardware & software. I choose 16F84 as the device and it programs perfectly every time. Be carefull though. V1.14 has some bugs.
