I have got new PIC12C508A PICs. The programming algorithm seems to be different than PIC12C508. Some of my friends have problems with 508A programming. Some programmers works perfectly, some programmers do right only 3 out 4 right. Some has troubles with each devices. The common failure is: programmer gives Ok, but Code Protection bit is turned on (originally off) and chip is not working. I have looked Microchip site for 508A pdf files, but I can't find anything. I want to hear others comments about 508A. I know that Picstart has upgrade for 508A ( 17C42 chip). I have Tait-type parallel programmer and this works ok every time. Hi Pekka, Sometime ago, Microchip release a new programming algorithm for 12C5X family. If your programmer is not updated you can have some troubles. By the way, ProPic 2 follow all the new specifications.
