'PIC Development Kit'

Conrad Electronic, a german "home electronics" distributor, offers a Kit
called "PICSTART-PLUS" with the following features:
- Headline reads "PIC16/17CXX Development Kit" (are there others that are
important?)
- Support for all Microchip 8Bit PICs from 8 to 40 pin
- Including "EVAL-Software MP-LAB"
- Documentation for MP-LAB
- Microchip CD-ROM
The price is 399 DM (that«s around us$ 250). My question is, has anybody
heared of this system? Maybe someone uses it? Is it reliable, or in short:
Should I buy it?
I only need to program a PIC once in a while, so I am not willing to spend
too much money on it. On the other hand, I don«t want to waste _any_ money
buying garbage...
Thanks for any advice!

Ralf:
The Picstart Plus is manufactured and supported by Microchip
Technology; you'll probably be very happy with it unless you don't
have a Windows machine (Picstart Plus and MPLAB only run under
Windows).
MPLAB (and the Picstart Plus plug-in) can be downloaded at no charge
from Microchip's web site, so you should have no problems keeping
up-to-date with the latest versions.
The price is higher than what we pay here in the States, but I
suppose that's to be expected.
