'PCB Question'

I want to use the tone transfer system to make a prototype PCB. I have the
shareware IVEX board layout program. I have never made a PCB before. I can
print only the pads and tracks, but there is no center hole in the solder pad,
it is solid. Do I just drill the center of the solder pad to insert the pin?
Or is there another way to print the pad with the center pin hole?

I used IVEX before but switched to CIRCAD (also shareware).
It has no pin limitation and can print with center hole or without.

Hi Jon,

You will need to change the type of pad to "annular" and then set a size
for the center hole. This may be a tedious process... I have no experience
with IVEX.

I have used the shareware IVEX too (both schematics and PCB). My pads (from
the standard mdules libraries) have a nice hole in the middle!

BTW, I print the PCB 1:1 on plain paper with my HP Deskjet, rub the paper
with vegetable oil, light (8 minutes) with a home-build UV lighting unit
with two big 20W TL tubes (and a plain glass window!), develop with NaOH
(15-60sec), etch with FeCl3 (10-60 min, depends on temperature). U use wide
tracks (1mm whenever posible). Results are very good.

Wouter.
