My son and I want to hook a 16C74A to a PC through the serial port. We
are looking for a hookup diagram, C code for the PC and assembly code
for the 16C74A.  Can anyone kindly tell us where to look?

Hi Dale,
I have been working with a 16C73 which is very similar. I use the
program HyperTerminal which is included in Win95-98. The settings I use are
through whatever com port is free with no handshaking. I have to disconnect
from the internet when I do this though. Hyperterminal does'nt cooperate
with my modem.    The hardware is a single chip interface: A Maxim MAX232.
This chip takes a 5 volt power supply and generates all the required
voltages for the rs-232 protocol. I connect to a DB-9 connector with three
wires using only ground, transmit, and receive. I have achieved speeds of
19.2 kbaud with this setup.
                                       Good Luck

There is a software driven uart in asm here. http://www.wirz.com

It is part of the SLI-OEM documentation.

You may need to define timer3 as it was missing when I downloaded it.

Told Ben and he may have it fixed now.
