'OT Web page Photos'

I am wondering why some photos get blurry when uploading web pages for
Internet access?

I tested my web page off line and the photos included look sharp! Once I
uploaded them to my Internet domain server and test the page via my browser
they look terribly blurry.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone?

Thanks.

Perhaps some of the bits became "scrambled" en route to the server...

Just a thought.

Or maybe someone tried to XOR 'em with something <g> Nah, could be
compression that doesn't get noticed until you upload the images.

Make sure the FTP client is in Binary mode.  If the files were
corrupt, I'd expect them not to work *at all*, but who knows?

Hi Mario,

Use a program like Paintshop Pro and save your Jpeg or gif files as 256
Colours, as some browsers don't do a good job, if your image file has more
than 16000 colours lets say. And also some people don't have fancy video
cards and have only VGA resolution when viewing webpages and it pays to
cater for their needs.

Cheers

Have you tried saving the image with the browser and comparing it to the
original on your hard disk? If not the same, then perhaps the web server
is converting images to a lower resolution to conserve bandwidth... but
I've never heard of this... or perhaps it's ocurring when you publish to
the ISP? Weird.

According to your email address, you are using AOL.

If you are using any of AOL's programs to put your pictures on a
webpage, or your webpage is on one of their servers, then I am almost
certian that a program has purposefully edited your picture so it won't
take up so much space.

There may be settings in your program to change some parameters before
putting the page up, such as Compression and Size.

Other problems might be that somehow the pictures were put up
incorrectly, and you haven't uploaded the better versions of them.  When
you update your page, the page may refer to your good pictures when it's
on your hard drive, but when it's on your server it refers to the
pictures on the server.

Since you are on AOL, I suggest you look for help in their frequently
asked questions about picture uploading.

Photo's look cool, but took ages to download probably because
everyone on the PIClist was trying to view it at the same time!

Most common cause is that your images consume more colours than are
provided by the browser you are using to view them.  But I agree, cheap
ISPs may decide to compress your images.

Your domain server should not relate to the issue at all.  Web server,
yes, domain server, no.

Please point at one for me to review.  Send an original to me privately
by electronic mail and I will compare the two images to see if your ISP
has decided to modify it for you.

When you test your page off-line, are you using the same browser?
