I think that Mr. Galvin would be turning over in his grave right now.  The
big M was started by him in Chicago with first successful product being car
radios in the 30's (and hence where the name came from).  Motorola started
in semiconductor industry in the 50's mainly in Phoenix where it remains
the area's largest private employer.

Motorola did not "evolve from some xxx manufacturing company in
California", nor to my knowledge did Mr. Lear (who had a daughter named
Chandel) play any part in it.

You may be right.  The article where I read this (I forget where it was)
had other errors also.  It had Mr. Lear responsible for the first cable TV
system in Pittsburg area when in fact that honor goes to Service Electric
near Allentown.

If I'm wrong - hey, it happens.

Just don't believe everything you read.
