'Microchip design consultant group - what is it ?'

I have found an advertisement proudly announcing, that company XYZ is a
Microchip Design Consultant Group Member (even the word "member" capitalized
8-o). Does anyone know what is this group? Is it difficult to become a
member? Who decides about membership? Or any other info available?

Josef

Josef;

The consultant program is administered by Microchip.  A list of authorized
consultants is maintained on their web site, and a printed book is released
every few years.  A candidate must show an active interest in the PICmicro
product, with a track record of success in his/her projects.  The application
process is handled by your regional Microchip FAE.  The program is great.
Although almost all of my work is already PIC, they do not expect you to promise
allegience to only PIC.  In return, they treat you as a VIP.  They do ask that
if advance information is shared with a consultant that we do not blurb it all
over the place until it is mature information.

If you have a solid interest in PIC products, and regularly sell your design
services, I suggest you contact your FAE.  I am not certain that there are any
consultant program members overseas.  You would have to ask.

You also get discounts on devtools and small qty orders, plus
no-quibble fast replacement emulator chips when you blow up pins on
your picmaster probe 2 days before a project's due in! Oh, and also a
nice wooden plaque!

Hi,
I'm interested in the consultant program. But can you say me, what does
FAE mean? I would be very grateful if you could say me, where is the local
FAE for Hungary.

Thanks,
Imre

Hi,

FAE stands for "Field Application Engineer", usually the guy who should help
you if your are getting into technical trouble while implementing his
products (PICs in this case). In Germany several distributors have a FAE.
Indeed one of them supported me very well on my last project. But actually,
the breakthrough came by reading the PIC-List ;-)

So long

Thomas

The consultant group is the list of consultants on the WEB site or in the
third party guide. The first step to inclusion is contacting your Microchip
FAE. There are requirements for number of designs you have done and that
you have multiple clients.
