Any one sucessful at getting MPLAB to communicate with a PICS Start Plus
reliably under Windows NT 4.0. It works under 3.51, but no dice under 4.0.
Docs indicate it does work with NT, but it said that when I was using it
under 3.51

TIA
Howard

I have successfully gotten MPLAB 4.0 to work on WinNT 5.0 (Windows 2000) beta
2.
It had no problems programming the pic.  I think that the problem in the pass
with earilier versions of MPLab
was that they used the old 16bit API for communicating with the serial port,
so it would only work on winnt 3.51 or lower
with win 95.  And in rare cases win 98.  However, from the looks of things
version 4.0 of MPLAB works great on both 98, and NT 5.0 so I am safely
assuming that they are using the 32bit communication
functions(CreateFileEx...).

I have a copy of Windows 2000 Beta 3, therefore I will have to give this
a try for myself, as I have been very displeased that Microchip hasn't
create a solution to this long outstanding problem.  I guess they feel we
should all run Win 95/98, NOT!

Thanks

Instead of calling it Windows99 as it should be, they called it Windows
2000, so that they have much more time to stabilize it (Win95 was released
in Aug95, Win98 was released in Aug98, without many "REAL" changes from 95b)

If they are using a 32 bit comm function why does it still not work
under NT4SP4?
Perhaps MicroChip should hire Jim Robertson (Newfound
Electronics) as a consultant.
