On the Microchip web site, they have two versions of MP-Lab available for download, 3.40 and 3.99.23. Why? Is 3.99 a beta version or otherwise not-very-stable version? Is there any reason to use 3.40?

Hi 3.99.23 is the latest Beta version and is stable enough (well it is not worse than 3.40, put it that way). There are a few enhancements and new drivers. Quentin

However, the old version proved to have more bugs than the beta. So, back to new version. Unfortunately there seems to be no version which would not take the AltGr-key to itself. Very annoying feature with a non-us keybord like the ones in manny places at the Europe. I think it would be quicker to keep an ASCII reference chart handy and key the codes in. Do you realise that this is built in to Windoze? It's called Character Map and lives in the Accessories folder. You can add a shortcut to it to the StartUp folder. Don't forget to use the numeric keypad for the Alt-codes. How do you suppose I type µ ("mu" as in µF) or ¡ (degree) so easily using my American keyboard (as against my German one)? (Hint: I *remember* they are Alt-230 and Alt-248 respectively!) -- Cheers, Paul B.
