I'm considering adding an ISP (in-system programming) port to a new
design -- does anyone have any experience with this?

Good experiences?  Bad Experiences?  Gotchas?

Have you used a commercial programmer, or rolled your own?

Any comments appreciated!

The only problem I've seen on the list is that the crystal for the target
can cause problems. Apparently on powerup the crystal can actually start
running the part before it gets to programming mode giving incorrect
addresses.

I believe that someone suggested a series resistor and a pulldown connections
during programming to stop the crystal from osciallting.

Can anyone comment?
