Hi Keith,

Fluffy is my programmer (with some assistance from PIClisters regarding
the 12.5v issue). So far there have been about 400 downloads of the
code, so yes, at least a few people are using it (either that or one
particularly obsessive person has been downloading it 400 times :)

A few people have written back to confirm that it does indeed work,
which is always reassuring. The only request I've had thus far is
to support RS232 as well - got all the code written - just need
to test the damn thing.

Your epoxy may well be done by now.

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben & others,

has anyone done a freeware assembler for the scenix yet ?
(Yeah I know that Parallax do a $$$ one)

Ought to be easy for such a simple beast with mostly Microchip type
opcodes.

If I didn't have to make money on other tasks...

regards,
Graham Daniel.

Graham...

There's one available on the same page as the rest of the Fluffy stuff.

http://www.codepuppies.com/~ben/sens/pic/sx

Bear in mind, though, that it was hacked together in a few spare
moments, and consequently doesn't do macros, may have a few bugs,
is probably missing a few handy EQUates, and doesn't generate the
most helpful error messages in the world. It did work well enough,
however, for me to write a dodgy music program...

It uses Microchip style syntax, (which makes a lot more sense to me
than having two completely different notations for the same operation
depending on the destination register - eg: dec CTR and mov W,--CTR).

I know there's at least one other freeware assembler out there
too, shouldn't be too hard to find. I've seen a couple of simulators
also.

Hmmm. I do, but fortunately, my priorities are REALLY screwed up :)

Cheers,
Ben

Graham,

Parallax software has always been available for free download - first on
the BBS and now via ftp.  You are welcome to download the Parallax SX-Key
software (includes editor, assembler) if it suits your needs.

My understanding is that Ben's programmer software will read the Parallax
file format with embedded fuse data.

I have the sx key and its associated software. Disapointingly it does not
generate a hex file or anything that can be easily converted to an intel hex
file. I toyed today with the idea of writing a program that would parse the
code from its absolute listing output since I will be writing an elaborate
program for this chip away from the programmer key which is at work.
Does anybody know about this peculiarity or am I missing something?

Thanks for the correction Russ,

I'll have to see if the mnemonic format is worth it's differences from
Microchip's MPASM

Graham Daniel.

Hi Keith,

You need to assemble the code (CTRL-A), then go to Run, Device, and
Save. This will allow you to save a .SXH file, which is Intel Hex
format, with the fuse config values embedded at 0x1010 and 0x1011.
Fluffy will happily read this format.

Cheers,

Ben
