Comrads,
I have yet to see any replies to my first attempt at this question. So I am goin
g to try once again. If no answer I will email Microchip.
I am about to download MPLAB version 3.99.21. I use the PICStart Plus and need t
o download firmware version 1.50. Questions: Where do I get it? Is it is the new
MPLAB? Also, does anybody have any complaints or problems with the new MPLAB in
WIN95 or 3.11 that I may know about? I thank you so much for your time!

                       Best regards,
                       Steven

The previuos version of the updated Picstart+ firmware was supplied
with the MPLAB files. It would  most likely be the same situation.

I have MPLAB 3.99.21 but have no PICStart Plus.
I installed all software for MPLAB and version for PICStart Plus is 1.42.07
(as appears in Help.About box).

There should be a readme file explaining that the picstart plus upgrade is a
FIRMWARE upgrade, and requires you programming a new 16C77 chip
with the 1.50 hex file and then opening up your picstart and replacing the
one that's there with it.

I suggest you purchase an EPROM C77 or if the flash version is out yet, buy
it.  That way, you won't have to toss the OTPs out for the next upgrade.

Note that the chip is a 17C44 not a 16C77.  Also, FYI, the v1.42.07
refers to the version of the software driver for PS+.

The firmware resides in the 17C44 inside the PICSTART Plus.  You need
to re-program that device (if it is windowed), or replace it with a
17C44 programmed with the firmware .HEX file that's included with
    MPLAB v3.99.21.

You can get an upgrade kit from your distributor or do it yourself.

Any chance in heck - or I'll settle for purgatory - that the source is
or will ever be available?
