Hi everyone,

I trying to get information (brand, model, speed, drivers) about an old
modem with FCC registration number 1B92MB-60334-MD-E. I've looked at the
FCC site but I can't gather any info because they only list the products
with FCC ID. What is the difference ? I want to find out if i can use
this modem with Linux... I installed Linux over a month ago and
unfortunately, i found myself with a winmodem so i'm trying to find out
if this old modem will serve my purpose.

Also, I'm transferring my PIC related activities to linux..I have
downloaded and installed gpasm, gpsim and picutils. Is there any Eagle
counterpart in the Linux sphere, I remember someone talking about
x-circuits(?). Where can I get one ? What other Linux PIC tools
(soft/hard-ware) can you recommend.. Any pointers, urls, tutorials out
there... Your 2 cents worth will be gratefully remembered....

All the best :-),

       Alan

Go to http://www.fcc.gov/oet  then only type in the first 3 or 6 characters of
the FCC ID.  Try 3 first  1B9 if that does not work then type in the
first 6: 1B92MB

The company I work for makes two way radios and our older radios had a 6
character company identifier now the FCC has shortened it to 3

Try a place like http://www.driverguide.com/ and sign up. then you can
gain access to drivers and look under fcc reg. lookup.  Then you can see
the brand and make and speed and drivers(if any available) and it will
also point you to the manufacturer  www site.

Most/all modems work with linux(except for some odd ones like a us
robotics sportster WINmodem 56K :)

Actually not to be a stickler, but most internal modems you see out there
right now will not work with Linux since they are almost all winmodems. Even
some externals are now becoming winmodems, some with USB are
"controllerless". Many ISA internals are winmodems, and practically all PCI
are winmodems, an unfortunate sign of the times, dump everything on the CPU.
I am PRAYING for LINUX to become as big as everyone thinks it will be to
sway this "windows only" course. TTYL

That's arguable.  More and more modems these days are software modems
that won't work without the drivers.  And most of them only have
drivers for Windoze.  If it's a PCI modem ... well, good luck.
Last I heard there are only two or three PCI modms known to be true
hardware modems.

I checked http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html for that FCC ID and
found that modem listed as being made by Zoltrix.  It's also listed as
being an ISA modem with jumpers.  Unfortunately it's unknown as to whether
or not it'll work.  I tried Zoltrix's website - nothing there.

http://www.gnupic.org
http://huizen.dds.nl/~gnupic/
are two that come to mind.  There's also a gnupic listserv hosted on

 Why don't you try Eagle?
