Sorry if this has been covered recently (did a search of old digests
without a match).

Are there any hidden gotcha's (other than the programming pulse width) with
me using my
PIC16C54A code on the '54B or '54C chips?  (the 54B and 54C's are
significantly cheaper)

TIA
Dave

I'm still evaluating this. The firmware upgrade for the PicStart Plus
programmer was just released last week. Not sure what support is available
for other programmers. The chips themselves are available from Digi-Key,
though.

There is no hidden gotcha with the programming pulse with. There is not a
single specified difference in the programming algorithm between a 54, 54A
54B and 54C. The code protection config bits changed but this is an issue
for the .INC files and not the programmer.

Why the microchip web page says the firmware update supports the '57C and 54C
is beyond me. There is nothing incompatible with the existing firmware. What
I think is going on is that the new MPLAB with 57C, 54C support altered the
handshaking protocol to be more compatible with NT. The new firmware is
altered also for better NT support. This is the connection.

If there is anything other than this microchip have not published any info,
not even on the 3rd party  mailing list.
