      Does anyone know if the A to D convertor on the 16C71x has a
      true sample and hold on the input?  Its not clear to me in the
      documentation if the sampling switch remains closed during
      conversion or if it opens during conversion.  I see that the
      sampling switch closes when the channel is selected and the A
      to D is enabled, but does the sampling switch open when GO is
      set?

Jim,

The sample and hold does open immediately.  It is safe to point the S/H
to another channel just after initiating a conversion.  I doubt it is
safe to do this in the same instruction, but I have done it in the next
instruction with no problems.
