'Archive searching'

Hi everyone,
Searching the PICLIST archives by subject, month by month, is a real
PITA. Does anyone have any suggestions for searching for old topics?

Specifically, interfacing to the MMC serial memory cards.
Thank you,
Dave Celsnak

Just set altavista to search the site and in a day or two
it'll get reindexed, then use av to do your searching..

What kind of searching would you like? Would you like to be able to search
the site text? This is something I would really like to add to the site
myself. Please send any comment about the PICList Web Archive to

I use Alta Vista and Hot Bot to search the FCC web pages (see the
bottom of any rule section at http://hallikainen.com/FccRules).  I've
found that HotBot is updated much more quickly than Alta Vista (at least
for the host http://www.fcc.gov).

Sounds very useful, but I don't understand how it works.  What is
"reindexing"?

Since my company created AltaVista, I suppose I should answer.  ;-)

AltaVista works by visiting sites.  It examines web pages and takes note
of which pages contain which words.  This is called indexing, or
re-indexing the database that it maintains.

People can ask the AltaVista spider program to visit a particular site.
After a few days, the AltaVista database will contain the information
needed to support searches of that site.

For further information, go to http://www.altavista.com/ and read the
documentation.

Is there an up to date site for the PIC archives? The latest I have
been able to find is May 1998.

Cheers,   Bill
