Someone had posted anote earlier in the week with regard
to the 12C508 being UNAVAILABLE.

I called our local rep here in Rochester NY, and our local
supplier, Future Electronics.  The local reps have the
Microchip guys in today, and they say it ain't so.  I got
a return call from Future Electronics, and they claim to
have 235K (pieces) of 508s in stock.

So these chips are VERY AVAILABLE here in western upstate ny.

Regards.

Hello fellow PICsters;
I want to use a 12C508 in a new product and a consultant who's
commercializing our product advised us against using it. He said that the
demand for the part is such that Microchip is having problems meeting
delivery schedules. I called the Micrpchip rep and he said that the claim
was "bogus". Can anyone on the PICLIST  tell me the real story about the
availability of this part? TIA :-)

Well, Digi-Key currently has 657 PIC12C508-04/P in stock, and 4957 PIC12C508-04I
/P in stock. I would think that if there were problems getting them from Microch
ip, someone would have snapped these up, even if they cost more.

JW parts, OTOH, are out of stock.

I can't speak for anybody else, but *I* have had NO problems getting 12c508
parts in low to medium volume (we buy 200 - 1000 at a time).  There has been
no hint of any alocation problems.  Your best bet is to check with your
supplier - ours (FAI) generally keeps X number of thousand in stock and are
VERY open about telling us anytime there may be a potential delivery problem.

I have been able to buy even small quantities lately (10-20) with no delay,
and no trouble finding someone to sell them to me.  I would assume that if
there was a large demand, the big orders would have pushed mine into
backorder-hell....

I am using good volume of these (a version now) and have no problems with
delivery. This is more than I can say about Motorola experiences. Pioneer
shows stock of some versions and Digikey has just under 3000 dip and 2500
SOIC in stock.
