Hi

I am looking for a fingerprint reader that can output data via rs232 or simular with the user ID or name only. The fingerprint reader must be a stand alone unit and all user fingerprint data and users data must be saved on the reader itself. Once a user place his finger on the scanner and gets verified, it must send the user data to the rs232.

All that I want to do is use the rs232 data (user ID) .

A Pic will then read a scale to determine the number of users on top of the 'hidden' scale. Once the weight correlate within a % to the users average weight it will open a gate.

I dont want to get involved in the finger print reader algo's because it is very involved, but I am unable to find info on a fingerprint reader that can send only a user ID via rs232 after verification

Regards

This is probably because to authenticate within the reader then send a 'go' command down a communications link is a security loop hole. It is more secure to send data that gets authenticated elsewhere - until someone realises how simple it is to fool a reader ...

Thanks Mike, I think that one can do the job for now. (162 users)

Most of the other readers have rs232 output for their own dedicated software (protocol) only.
