Hi guys,

Years ago, I purchased licenses to CH Basic and CH Basic Flash.

Just wondering if anybody knows what happened to these guys - as it was quite a good product.

Regards,

Sea

I've never heard of CH Basic, but you need to look into your email system.
Your message had the following FROM: line in the header:

From: ", Embed Inc, 978-742-9014"
<=?utf-8?Q?sean_alcorn_=E8=91=89=E8=8F=AF=E9=81=9C?=@embedinc.com>
<spam_OUTpiclistTakeThisOuTspamsdalcorn.com>

I have no idea where the Embed Inc remnant came from, but I certainly had
nothing to do with your message.

Maybe from your system somehow? I only see some garbage characters following Sean's
name in the headers:

Subject: [PIC] Anybody know what happened to CH Basic?
From: sean alcorn 葉華遜
        <piclistspamKILLspamsdalcorn.com>
Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2011 17:01:34 +1100
To: .....piclistKILLspamspam.....mit.edu
X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.1082)

Okay, in webmail they're properly rendered as (I guess) Sean's Chinese name
ye4 hua4 xun4 (traditional characters).

No embed inc in my received header... Your MTA probably added it. BTW, in android, the non-English characters even render properly.

That would be either your mail server ("QK SMTP Server 3") or Outhouse.. sorry, Outlook mis-handling UTF-8.

Thunderbird shows this in the View Raw Headers window:
From: =?utf-8?Q?sean_alcorn_=E8=91=89=E8=8F=AF=E9=81=9C?=
       <RemoveMEpiclistTakeThisOuTspamsdalcorn.com>

So {QKSMTP|Outlook} falls over instead of doing a proper UTF8 decode, then assumes the From field is incomplete, and tacks on "@embedinc.com" to turn it into a "valid" (but still completely wrong) email address.

As much as it pains me *not* to take a dig at M$ in this case, it's more likely to be an issue with the SMTP server... This makes more sense: the SMTPD knows which domains it's handling mail for; Outlook generally doesn't..

I don't understand why people keep using a broken e-mail client and
complain about messages that don't show correctly.
Microsoft's e-mail clients are non-free and buggy. Not even cryptography
they do decently (or at all?).

I can see that lots of people around here use Mozilla Thunderbird (as I
do). It is great and supports OpenPGP.

No. I don't recall you being here when I typed it.

So after much discussion about Olin's email system, I am assuming the answer to my question was "No"

(The list probably needs a moderator to reign in this sort of thing.) :-)

Here's a link I get when Googling CH Basic:
http://www.junun.org/MarkIII/CHBasic.jsp

"What is the Celestial Horizons Basic Compiler Flash Limited Edition?
Celestial Horizons has made an arrangement with the Portland Area
Robotics Society to license a special edition of the v. 3.7.0 Flash
Basic Compiler for the Mark III Kits. Their intent is to make the
compiler available at a very low cost to support the PARTS mission to
promote robotics as well as the workshops and school projects for which
the Mark III is intended. "

The CH web site is still up:

Heck, I think a lot of us would be willing to chip in to buy Olin a more
recent computer.

C'mon, Olin, twelve years is enough, you got your money's worth out of
that Zeos Pantera!
