Hi all,

For those that might be interested, the complete Pocket project is
available for download.

Supplied Files...

pocket.zap - ROMzap project file which sets up the chip for operation
and creates a bootloader file to match.

pocket.asm - The source code for the bootloader created by ROMzap.

pocket.hex- The assembled boot loader file

Tpocket.asm - The source code for the pocket project. This is made
compatable with ROMzap by making sure that the first 3 ROM location and
the last ROM 256 ROM locations are free. Details are listed in the
source code.

Tpocket.hex - The assembled pocket code

pocket.exe - Tool kit companion for the PC. This must be used when asked
for by the pocket programmer. Communications take place over the PC
serial port at 19200 baud.

chipdat.txt - Text file containing the user chip data used by the pocket
programmer.

pocket.msg - Text file containing the messages used by the menu system.

pocket.hlp - The help file for the pocket.exe program

pocket.pdf - A PDF file that explains how to construct the pocket
programmer.

picpokc.sch and picpokc.pcb are Protel files of the circuit and PCB
design.

The download is zipped and is about 1.4Meg

Since I don't have the setup for making PCB's I'd be interested in a kit
if one becomes available. Any plans to port the PC software to unix? If
not, I'll give it a go. I'd hate to have to install winblows just for
this.

I'm actually thinking of writing the code in JAVA so it can be used on
PC MAC UNIX etc.

I'd still be interested in a doing a C/C++ version for unix. I don't
have much long term faith in java. Besides, it would be fairly easy to
cover bsd/linux/osx/darwin with a single program. Windows and mac os are
the only odd balls in the mix, and there are ways of dealing with them.
On top of that java support in the nix world still leaves a lot to be
desired.

I will put together a listing of the communications protocol that exists
between the pocket and the PC (?) and include it in the zip file.

It shouldn't be too hard if the source code is followed along with this
explanation.

That's great Tony, so when can we buy kits
of the pocket programmer? Did you plan to
sell a kit?

Tony,

I'd like to participate in development of JAVA code for the Pocket.  I don't
have much long term faith in C/C++ ;-).  I've had great luck with writing
PIC (and other platform) tools in JAVA that run great on a number of
UNIX systems and Winblows.

I look forward to hearing from you (or the list) on this project's
organization.  In the meantime, I'll start absorbing the great work you've done
with the Pocket.

That'll make life easier, thanks. Is there anyway I can get you to sell
me a kit (or at least a finished PCB) so I have something to test with?

Cool. I'll get a webpage going in the next few days. I'm kinda partial
to C++ myself, which do you prefer? What system do you develop on? I'm
using FreeBSD-STABLE.

I made some enquiries yesterday and the kit is in the pipeline now. It
will take a week or so to bring everything together.

Perhaps if people want to develop an interface for different platforms
then maybe they can post thier own code for thier own credit and perhaps
provide a link for the Pocket's home page and keep it as a central
point.

The only hard part is creating the data file so that the Pocket
understands it for message retrieval and the dissassembly process.

The PC software merges and modifies both the user Chip Data file and the
System Message file and places pointers and string length values into
key parts of the data so that the Pocket can quickly jump to the
addresses neccesary to retrieve the data from the I2C memory.

I've nearly finished the interface details and will post them when
complete.
