'[PIC]: Embedded Systems Conference?'

Anybody going to the Embedded Systems Conference next week in San
Francisco? Is there a Piclist get-together at the ByteCraft booth this
year? Which day? The party is on Thursday. Is there a ByteCraft booth?
Will Microchip be giving out gobs of stuff?

The exhibitor list looks pretty small, moving from San Jose was probably a
bad idea. Looking at the online list, Microchip, HiTech and TechTools are
there, I no longer see Parallax or Bytecraft, and I forget what Scenix is
calling themselves this week.

Enquiring minds want to know...

Well, I actualy mailed Microchip and asked if the
"handouts" (that you can *buy* at the conf) was
available for us that can't go there. The answer
was no, even if I'd accept to *pay* for them.
The MC rep that answered thought I'd ask someone
near me to buy them *there* for me. But then, who'd
like to take a large pile of paper as extra weight
on the flight?

Do they realy think that *everyone* using PIC's would
attend ?

This is as bad service as there sample service is good !

Jan-Erik.

Thanks. I had forgotten all about ESC until you just posted this. I'll
definitely be going up but I hadn't decided on which day(s) yet.

I'll have to check if they've got shuttle busses going up from the
south bay this year (I'm not sure if ESC had them in the past or not.)

If there's a concensus, maybe Thursday would be the best day.

Regards, Bob

Got another message from Microchip about getting
the handouts without attending the conference :

"The only other alternative in obtaining the class material
is paying the Conference fee of $795.00 and I can send you
a copy of the MASTERs CD, which contains all class material,
after the Conference is completed. In fairness to the attendees
who spend the time and money to attend the Conference, we cannot
send you the information any other way."

Jan-Erik.

Byte Craft will not be exhibiting at ESC. We have exhibited at ESC west
for every show including the first one with 6 booths and about 150 people.

The ESC show no longer represents the embedded industry with many of the
major players not attending (Chip companies like intel and national for
example)
Some of this is the natural changes in the industry and some a show that has
over the last few years has failed to attract the attendees that make this
industry
vibrant. In one sense I am sorry to see it go, in and another it is the start
of another
era of promotion and conferences.

I attended the ACCU conference in the UK about a week ago. The talks
we lively and very well attended. Lots of new information and many new faces.
This was a conference that the attendees mattered and the talks sparked debate

into the wee hours of the morning. We need more of that.

Last summers Master's conference was similar with aid of one major corporate
sponsor , Microchip.
