General-Purpose Cable Tester: page 12

There's a brief history of JAL on page 13 with links

I haven't looked at any of the projects on Wouter's website but if you're
looking for a complete hardware/software example of using JAL then the CC
article covers a lot.

There's an article by Michael Griebling (the feature article!) with a
sidebar entitled "A Brief History of JAL".

It starts with

"Developed by Wouter van Ooijen"...

If you're really desperate, you can download a zipped PDF (245 kB) of this
article from:
  http://www.dtweed.com/circuitcellar/temp/griebling-154.zip

I can't leave it up indefinitely, so if you want it, grab it in the next
two weeks or so.

I sent Wouter a copy of it off-list a couple
of hours ago. Didn't want to send it on-list,
since it's a subscription service...

Whatever. I don't like to send big emails without warning, and I figured
others might be interested as well.

As a Circuit Cellar editor/proofreader, I have a certain amount of leeway,
but as I said before, I can't leave it there indefinitely.

Thanks for the clarification of your relationship with Circuit Cellar.
I was wondering if this article was part of their subscription content
or a freebie. I'll go ahead and download it now. Thanks for posting
it.

Dit you proofread *this* article? The Jal sidebar follows my (totally
out of date) webpage and documentation in mentioning a limited range of
target PICs. The PIC used in the article is *not* in this list :(

Yes, of course. (BTW, "Dit" should be "Did" :-)

I did in fact check out the web page at the time (early March).

Why are you carping at me? How was I meant to know that it was out of date?
The fact that it had a note dated January 2003 regarding the GPL status
(which jibed with my knowledge from this list) led me to believe that it
was fairly up-to-date.

If there's a different page you want people to visit, you should:
a) put a link in the page referenced in the article <http://www.voti.nl/jal/>
b) write a "letter to the editor" of CCI to bring this to the attention of
  our readers

I am not 'carping' (not being a native english speaker I don't even know
what that is, but I have an idea) you, or if I am I am carping myself
much more for not updating out-of-data info.

The point is that apparently neither you nor the author nor anyone else
saw the discrepancy between the list of supported PICs in the sidebar
(which *is* the list I have on my webpage, no one's fault but mine!),
and the PIC used in the article, which is not in the list of supported
chips.

> b) write a "letter to the editor" of CCI

I'll probably do that, offering an apology for the out-of-date info as
well.

This looks like a good place for a testimonial...
Circuit Cellar Ink is available online at a reasonable cost.
Those of you with academic conections may recieve it free.
The online subscription is presented when you request it, in PDF format.
I prefer the electronic copy because it is easy to tuck away on my laptop
and stores easily as well...
My relationship is that of a long time customer...

Hi.
A testimonial from a short time customer...

I registred two days ago, and first downloaded
the complete May issue. Got aprox 10Mb's including
8 Mb's of advertisment :-(

But, the good news is that each article is downloadable
separatly in an "ad-less" version. 11 files with a total
value of 2 Mb's in the May issue :-)

And ZIP'ed PDF files is all right with me to...

Jan-Erik.

Whereas I'm really annoyed about all the paper I accumulate each month, and like to keep mags like circuit cellar, etc, I hate reading off a computer screen, and with the amount of time I already spend on this thing, I need a break.  So my paper-magazines accompany me to the pool where I read.  Besides, I *always* take reading material anywhere I think I'll have to wait .... banks, tag agencies, etc.

Cheers,
-Neil.

Yes, the ads are relatively large (lots of graphics), but you also
get the following in this file, not available separately:

* Editorials by Jennifer Huber and Steve Ciarcia
* Letters to the Editor (if any)
* New Product News
* EQ quiz
* Contest announcements
* Ad index and a preview of the next issue
