yeah, he must have woken up on the wrong side of bed :P
Personally I wouldnt mind reading some info on the subject.
I dont even have cable here, nor will I ever get it (geographical reasons for one)
I am not for 'cable-piracy' but I still finds it a interesting subject.
I'd like to know because I have a wide tech interest.
Isnt it so that the 'forbidden' info is the most exciting one ?
How the coding is done, what techniques implemented etc :)
Isnt knowledge free ? If u then choose to do something possibly illegal
that should be a matter for the police and not for Piclist admins ?
(just my 2 cents)
still I wouldnt lose any sleep if this tread didnt come up on the list ! hehe

Two problems with that:
A) the PICList is dependant on the use of equipment and resources from our
host, MIT. In case you hadn't noticed, the email address is
spamBeGonepiclistspamBeGone
mitvma.mit.edu. As in... Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I,
for one, am not going to allow MIT equipment to be used to disseminate
information that will be used to steal. Much less risk the possibility that
MIT might decide to drop the PICList. And don't start about getting a new
list server, most people find this list by some mention of that email
address on a web site or archive or whatever. And its not a small cost to
support 1900 members times 100 or so posts a day.
B) Engineers who don't police the release of their knowledge or the use of
their products are irresponsible at best. Just because an engineer (or
"hacker" in the "person who is driven to understand how things work" sense
of the word) figures out how a PSX chip can be written, doesn't mean that
the people he or she sends that data too will appreciate that knowledge or
use it in an honest manner. And when they use it to steal, in the end, its
the hacker who pays the price. Yes, I see the positive side of learning
about PSX chips and I see the "justifications" for using them, but don't
post the result of your efforts to 1900 people, some of whom may not use
that information as you intend and who may, at a minimum, damage the hacker
reputation further (as if it could be damaged further) and quite possibly
get your butt in serious poop.
And finally, keep in mind that the PICList is...
...NOT PUBLIC PROPERTY...
...it is owned, lock, stock and barrel, by Jory. Period. Jory says he
doesn't want to have to police this crap and has appealed to people to post
appropriately. Jory also made me an Admin and List Owner and he has given me
permission to police it. And I want to. Don't like it? Tell me how I can
handle it better ...directly to me ...or tell Jory to fire me. Please don't
keep crying to the list.

I like to think of myself as a guest in the "PICLIST house". If I show up at
your party naked, bug your other guests, and annoy you, then, James you have
the right to escort me to your door. If you don't like my behavior or
opinion, I will be the one leaving. I'm not going to argue that I have a
right to stay, I'm just one of your (and Jory's) 1900 invited guests.
I hope more people share this opinion.
(Oh, god, I lay awake at night hoping that my server doesn't ever bounce
messages...:-| )
