"might as well use PC Paint or PAINTBRUSH or go to your local car
dealer with a few 8 x 4 sheets of flat steel and ask for some motor
car panels to be fabricated, same idiocy"
Granted it might not have all the bells and whistles of Protel,
Altium, Cadence and such, but Eagle is more than capable of producing
high quality artwork at fraction of the cost of the big players. I've
limited experience of eagle, but have seen enough open designs from
dangerous prototypes that are of a high standard.
You can still produce sloppy bad designs with the high end tools. I
suppose they are just setting the entry bar for their customers fairly
high. If business is that good and they can afford to do that, that is

Also you give the PC maker Gerber files, not your eagle layout file?
He definitely isn't an Eagles Fan. No mention of "Hotel California"

Heh. Some of the guys at work say something similar...
"This place warps you irreparably. [...] It's like the Hotel California: you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
Although I prefer Dante Alighieri's version.
"Abandon Hope, Ye Who Enter Here."

I've dealt with 3 companies who use "commercial" PCB packages in-
house and have Eagle either installed or have working knowledge of it
Two confirm designs by email using GC Preview (Google) to show
that Eagle's Gerbers are as correct as anybody else's
Never had a board rejected because they are complete grand-dads.
I suspect that RCS would not be so one-eyed and ranting if they did
not have the licences for all those magazine boards
It puts me off giving them business. I've known people like that and
they tend to be staid, inflexible and grumpy about everything

Yep, me too, I'm always wary of such extreme opinions - IME they often go with someone who is an expert in explaining why things *can't* be done, rather than how they can be...
Too many fumes over all the years of experience
