With a vanishingly few exceptions, doomsday is no more than 120 years
away at most for anyone, and less than half that for many.

World average life expectancy about 65 years.
About 30 years in 1900 !!!!
Est 22 - 25 in Roman empire!

Y2K meltdown is worse, so far. There WERE some very bad effects in
some systems. The atest prediction was based on extremely creative
biblical interpretations and there is no goo reason to think he would
be correct. He's probably up to a week out ! [ :-) !!!!!]. Any such
predictions are liable to be either 0% or 100% correct. So far all
such have managed 0%. So far :-).

Some people will believe anything just because some other people scribbled
it in a book.

The world will end when the flying spaghetti monster runs out of sauce or
olive oil.  I know that's true because I saw it on the internet (not one of
those silly books).

It's good to see that you are undertaking ongoing education and keeping up
with latest trends :-).
Your increase in knowledge of the FSM since a prior occasion when it was
discussed is commendable.
I'd suggest due care be taken when considering delving into deeper
pastifarian knowledge. While the FSM is sold as all good fun and fair
comment it's frequent invocation seems to have a deliterious effect on
openness of mind, critical assessment of data and genuine sense of humo[u]r..
May be due to exposute to too much Olive Oil, but probably not.

Rice Bran Oil seems to be a good enough [tm] substitute for Olive in many
applications. It also has the advantage of being far cheaper, as most people
seem to be wary of anyone who claims to be able to extract oil from rice.

As I noted recently, I saw Cobra oil advertised in Yogyakarta but didn't get
a chance to check it out. I'm not sure whether this would be first/cold
press (ala Olive "extra virgin") or if it needs heat or solvents for
extraction. I cam imagine the donor having a hissy fit at pressing time.

I think that Pastafarians may get snaky if the use of Cobra oil was mooted.
If you suggested Rice Bran oil they'd not be sativaed, but would be liable
to glaber(rima) on about it's relative polly-unsaturation - even with not a
cloud in the sky nor a parrot in sight.

Searching the web for references to "cobra oil" is interesting. Eponymous
oil companies and stern drive manufacturers render  the results disparate
and mostly irrelevant. Few pages seem to yield the good oil. This one does

Trying this ladies hair strengthener at home is liable to bring your all
sorts of grief, but at least  your shaving scars may heal better.

Never mistake correlation for  causation.

FWIW: We here are where every day 1st starts **.
Samoa is going to be in the happy situation of being notionally being
where every day starts and actually being where yesterday* finishes.

Russell

* Relative to NZ.

** Every day 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... starts in an infinitude of other
places, or 24 if you only count 1 hour time zones,  or up to 48 if you
allow 1/2 hour divisions (which NZ needs due a permanent 1/2 hour of
daylight saving to misalign us with Britain.) If you count in whole
minutes, every day has about 1440 starts, and 86400 if you count by
quanta of seconds. This is all very  shaky as Tonga promotes itself a
whole day and a bit, Samoa is now approximately following suit. We
(NZ) are so far satisfied to move ourselves Eastwards 30 minutes at
all times (to make it easier to work out what time it is in Britain)
*** and by an additional 60 minutes from much of Summer.

China discards all its time zones bar one but fortunately is far
enough from the date line to not confuse people, except for those in
eg Urumqi, who must get up in the dark and go to bed really early if
the wish to toe the party line. Thos planning to catch an early
flight out of Urumqi can be in for a nasty surprise when they work out
what time they'll have to get up to catch it (ask me how I know :-) ).

*** This has seriously confused some people at potentially critical
moments. NZ was THE 1st country in the world to declare war on Nazi
Germany as 'we' thought it was 11am in Britain when it was in fact
only 9am. We declared war at 9am UK time and Winniw and friends did so
at 11am, following our lead 2 hours later. The NZ army official
website will lie to you about this, reason unknown

Bears some resemblance to similar claims/past accounts from the
same source...  Which did'nt mention official disavowal. MMMV.

There is some quite convincing material on web.
Provenance would need to be verified.
eg comment by AFAIR actual Prime Minister of the day re the confusion
in timing which was promptly realised and the anxious wait to be sure
that we had not attacked Nazi Germany on our lonesome.

It's just our army historians who have it stated wrong. They will KNOW
the truth so it's unclear why they see fit to change the party line.

Rats - That's what I was working around to: That you lot had waged
a War of Aggression against the 3rd Reich.

That the Army is still rolling its eyes seems comprehensible,  to
this old soldier..

Ah the hubris! Just cause YOU weren't beamed up doesn't mean it didn't happen to the chosen few Righteous (maybe none?) in NZ!
Of course you MIGHT have noticed an earthquake "so powerful it will throw open all graves. The remains of all the believers…will be…glorified…the bodies of all unsaved people will be thrown out upon the ground to be shamed." But did you visit any graveyards to check it out??

I believe Popeye would have something to say on this matter. Even Brutus.

Oh, no! We need a unified FSM following! Extra serving of spaghetti with Olive
Oil to Russell.

Sergey Dryga, still waiting for rupture, but it's just past the date (it's
12:16am here).
