You guys are softies! Try being a TV repairer doing
10 or 15 repairs a day. Each one with a number of parts
need replacing. Most commonly my resistors are grey,
totally ash grey, with maybe some charcoal coloured
patches or silvery wire stuff visible. And you complain
about color codes?? ;o)
So what do you do with a resistor with NO colors left?
One in 3 jobs we have a circuit diagram, about 20% of
whats left we can ring the service agent and ask them,
and the rest we make an educated guess as to its
value based on where it is in the circuit board
and what it probably does. We put in a "probable"
value and then run test and measure for expected
too-high or too-low symptoms. I can usually get it
right by the second resistor.
:o)

PS. Buy a cap meter!!! You can't work without an
ohmmeter can you?

Not on your life! When I was younger I did a few,
you would be amazed, EVERY housewife tries to
seduce you. No kidding. Every last one of them.
Young, old, single, married, gorgeous, plain,
they all do it with TV repair guys. Hey guys,
if your wife talks about getting a repairman out
to your house FIX IT YOURSELF!! Or take it in to
their shop! ;o)

Roman, normally I would not believe something like this... BUT, I used to
work with another field engineer who had been a TV repairman in NYC long
ago. He said the same thing. Oddly, as a field engineer working on IBM
mainframes, I never had the same kind of luck -- er, experience.

part 1 1855 bytes content-type:text/plain; charset=us-asciiI'll heed your advice!!!!
I've got one of those TV's that's too big to put in the trunk of the car, and
I'm too lazy to fix. Tough trying to find someone to take a look at it... but
now I think I'll fix it myself.
I was actually just curious if the TV Repairman of yesterday still existed?

When I working for Thorn EMI High Secuitiy (BANKS) installing alarms.
When working in the vault area you had to have a member of staff with you,
up to ten hours a day.
As most staff were female you could be asked about once a week "Do you
belive in SAFE s3x".
this s3x is because a mail was bounced for using a word they thoght was
naughty..(i was a good boy)

Hi,
I don't know if you know but your recent short response to this thread has
a rather large binary file and some strangely formatted ASCII art boxes
attached to it. I am not sure about whether they should be there ? The
attached file is called 'att1.eml'.

Everybody that uses Lotus Notes gets this silly little attachment aon all
outgoing emails. None of us have figgered out why yet. One of our offices
uses Lotus Notes, and the att1.eml's are always present.
