You might want to try taking a look at http://www.goldenhawk.com. As for read drivers, if the drive is an IDE ATAPI type, you can get standard dos drivers fairly easily, e.g. from a full windows 98 boot disk (created by windows setup, rather than copying the basic system files to a floppy). You can also get MSCDEX, the second non-drive specific part of the dos drivers, from the boot disk. Further, the config.sys and autoexec.bat files on the disk can be edited and copied for use on your own pc. I think MSCDEX was also included in at least one later version of MS-DOS, but i can't remember which - probably v6.22. Also, if you have a SCSI drive running off something common like an adaptec card, the win98 boot disk should support it without requiring any changes. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways. Dale, Thanks for this post. We would like to be able to use Linux, but our customers use Windoze, and the data acquisition card we use doesnt yet have Linux drivers (Eagle Technology claim to be slowly releasing them). We may end up dual-booting with DOS and Linux, so the instrument acquires data under dos, and periodically the customer archives data to CD under Linux. Ah - yes: our instruments use DOS, for reliability. The customer in question has Windoze in the instrumentation system into which our instrument feeds, and dont have people who are at ease with Linux. We want to migrate to Linux using Kylix, so that we get more functionality while still having a stable environment, but any use of Linux may be a concern to some of our customers, who arent familiar with it. Have you considered Linux enabled data acquisition cards from Sheldon Instruments? I have just run into a CD writing HOWTO and it appears that the cdwrite (or cdroast) program exists in EXE version (probably CYGWIN-ed).
