I have a vague recollection of that bottle being of similar shape
to the cooking pot that Marmite gets its name from (in French)

Vegemite is a mere pretender to the real thing.  Marmite was around long
before AFAIK.

As we are so way off topic here, it's only fitting to point to the Marmite
FAQ at http://www.gty.org/~phil/marmite.htm

Mike

They are similar but they do have a slightly different taste. Vegemite
tastes saltier and FWIW is more popular in AU.

FWIW the troops in WW1 used to call air burst shell explosions marmite *
because of the shape & colour being the same as the "every home has one,
always on" French soup pots.of the same name.

* Joyce what her name, "The Guns of August".

Now, I know many people love and swear by Vegemite, Marmite, etc... but they
also seem to be able to handle a bit of good natured ribbing about it....
so....

I saw this on the net today while I was looking for a safe way to trap flies
so my birds could eat them. The last line was so funny, I had to add snide
remarks to the entire thing...

Quoting from

With my comments below.

> To make your own fruit fly traps you will need a clear soft drink bottle.
Clear and soft?

> Drill holes just below the neck of a clear soft drink bottle.
Did we mention that it needs to be a clear soft drink bottle?

> Stick yellow electrical tape below the holes.
Inside or outside?

> The yellow will attract the fruit fly.
Notice that the color, NOT what we are about to put IN the bottle, will
attract the flies...

> Pour in a mixture of vegemite, water and the insecticide malathion.
Wow. Vegemite is not attractive to flies?

> Urine can be used instead of vegemite.
Oh Boy! Pay dirt! Ok, lets see...
For which of the following is Urine an effective replacement? A) the
insecticide malathion, B) water, no, it's C) Vegemite!
