Has anyone here used scopes made by OWON? They look similar to Tek
scopes but are about half the price. They look like Chinese
knock-offs, but I am not sure. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Sean

One additional question: what about Rigol and ATTEN?

Thanks,

Sean

_EVERYTHING_ is a Chinese knockoff these days.

Yup, I have one.  It's a Chinese knock-off.  The controls are a bit
cheap-feeling and the display has a few bad pixels and a pretty small
angle of visibility (whatever that term is) both horizontally and
vertically.  Other than that, it seems to work fine, has a decent
feature set for me, and was damn cheap when I got one (from Saelig).

I've used an Owon 2-channel scope (don't remember the model number),
and it was alright. The controls were very straightforward, the
feature set was limited compared to a Tek scope, but definitely
sufficient for lower-end use. There were no obvious or significant
flaws with it that I noticed during my use of it (debugging bit-banged
serial protocols at <5MHz).

Now that Tek has been bought out, they might be
rebadging import scopes for the low end market soon
enough. Tek used to be to scopes like Maytag was to
home appliances - now Maytag is owned by Whirlpool and
Maytag fridges are made by Samsung.

Cheerful regards,

Bob
