Found a good source for litz wire, 10ft and up <https://www.mikeselectronicparts.com/litz-wire/>. It's the way I'll go rather than trying manually to make litz wire from 44AWG wire. I'll just add another level of twisting in my case (secondary 3x primary current, best to keep cross section proportional to minimize loss).
