It is working fine for me in the UK, straight after I received this message
of Jim's.

This site has been pointed to in the past, and is one of the classics on
doing SMT work by this method.

Don't work right now (10:19 central Europe time).
Gives :
"The requested URL /encoder/200006/oven_art.htm was not found on this server."

I also tried "http://www.seattlerobotics.org", to try to "drill down" to
the SMD page. That gave me an "Site Administrator Login" page !

And "http://www.seattlerobotics.org" *does* display a page, but I don't
know if it's the same as the dot-org page...

Sorry, the second URL should have been "dot-com"...

Alan, it might be that you are seeing it through the JANET web cache, I got
the same 404, and the top page gave me some certificate warnings and a
login page, it's worked in the past.  To save anyone else trying, Google
comes to the rescue (without pictures, perhaps):

That is a definite possibility, as I am on the JANET network. :))

I have just had a way out there thought on SMT soldering, how about
one of those professional hand held hairdryers that have speed
control as well as heat control.

If it were possible to have it at a hight using a drill stand, where
the components didn't blow away (or they could be Pritt Sticked to
the board perhaps), but the temperature was just right for low
temperature solder - unfortunately I don't have access to one to even
find out how slow a blow they can do, or even what temperature can be
got from the air flow.

I have always been a few Dendrites short of an Axon and believe me it
shows.

Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright
until they speak!
