'[EE]: Medium-Long range RF link'

Hi, all.
I'm looking around for some medium-long range (1.5-3 mile) digital data radios. My main consideration besides range is price. I don't want to pay more than $20-30US per radio. Naturally, I need both a transmitter and receiver (duh!) :^). I'm currently using the 9XStream radios from Maxstream.
Frequency doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer the shorter antennas of the 800+ MHz range.

Any ideas/experience?

Thnx!!

Hi, all.
Since nobody responded to this the first time, I figgered I'd keep on postin' until I got a bite.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be obnoxious.
My rationale was that maybe someone thought "Well, I know of one that'll
work, but I want to make sure the specs are correct." and then went on to
read the rest of their mail and promptly forgot about it. I know I've done
this on many occasions.
Additionally, I've seen many cases where people have reposted with very
positive results, so I thought I'd give it a try myself.
Sorry again for any irritation...

Nah - that wasn't obnoxious.. Olin has an obnoxiating filter on his incoming
data channel.. It can be useful for dealing with some of the more extreme
miscreants but the level setting seems to slip sometimes and need
resetting.. Sometimes there are work arounds which stop it causing you
problems..  For instance, I've used two periods at the end of each sentence
here - may or may not work..

Any idea of the expected range of said rfPIC? Or does it require an external
RF amp to get reasonable range?

On the Digikey web site, I can find some variants of the
rfPIC12C509 series.

I think the rfPIC12F675 series (with Flash) are more
interesting. They are marked as "Future Product" at
te Microchip site.

I heard that they will appear in samples within a few months.

It actually works all the time.. But all the periods are exchanged for other
one's so that you think the card you selected has been guessed.. This tends
to put Heisenburg purists into a spin,, as it were,, as they insist that two
periods cannot have the same set of quantum numbers..

Confused?? You should be ::--)).
