PCLVERTICAL MOTION INDEX ( VMI ) Legend Ec= [Ctrl] [P] [Esc] in DOS EDIT VERTICAL MOTION INDEX The Vertical Motion Index ( VMI ) command designates the distance between rows in 1/48 inch increments (The vertical distance the cursor will move for a line feed operation). This command affects the line feed and half line feed spacing. The factory default VMI is 8 which corresponds to 6 lines per inch. The VMI command should always be sent after any page orientation command. Changes made in the default top margin or disabling perforation skip region at the bottom of the page will result in a change to the default vertical printable area. To invoke the VMI command, type Ec&l#C. The l is equivalent to a lower case L. The # designates a variable that is derived from the following formula: (Vertical Printable Area / Desired Lines Per Page) x 48 = # VERTICAL PRINTER AREA DEFAULTS 1.)Portrait Letter (8 1/2 x 11) = 10 inches 2.)Portrait Legal (8 1/2 x 14) = 13 inches 3.)Landscape letter (11 x 8 1/2) = 7.5 inches 4.)Landscape letter (14 x 8 1/2) = 7.5 inches Example: To designate 66 lines per page on letter size paper, portrait orientation. 10 inches / 66 lines per page x 48 = 7.27 Copyright Hewlett-Packard Co. 1993 The information contained herein is subject to change without notice.
